Selfish

As my daughter and I were walking with our two dogs in a 10 acre field minding our own business and the 4 of us relishing the peaceful countryside, a very angry strange woman appeared with a very profound message. “You city people do what you like in the country, letting your dogs run wild!!” We agreed with her that we let them run wild in a 10 acre empty field – red in face and so angry barely being able to contain herself she told us that we are “so selfish and inconsiderate, allowing our dogs to run free in an empty field and if she saw our dogs attacking her animals she would shoot both dogs.” Funnily enough her animals were about half a mile away from the field we were in. So we had no concern and said to her “if you want to shoot two dogs for running in an empty field there is nothing we can do.”

It has taken me 13 years in personal development to have no concern of this situation, to see this woman’s pain and suffering and have no reaction to her threat of shooting our two beautiful rescue dogs. Therefore the profound message for me was to be called selfish – what a compliment!

To be selfish simply means to be yourself. Don’t consider anybody else in the world, just consider yourself. In that very consideration you will have considered the whole world.

“A red rose is not selfish because it wants to be a red rose. It would be horribly selfish  if it wanted all the other flowers in garden to be both red and roses.” Oscar Wilde
