Exercise for today: No thoughts about money, our whole attitude of life is money orientated, the materialistic pattern of life is where money controls everything. The non-materialistic life is that where money is just a means to an end — happiness, peace, your own individuality is far more important than money. You know who you are and where you are going, and you are not distracted. These last 7 months I have practised complete detachment from money, having been taught by a swami in India, he showed me the simplicity of the non material world, that money is one of the most uncreative things you can become interested in. Our whole approach is power-oriented and power is destructive, not creative. An individual who is after money and power and prestige is a beggar, because he continuously begs. They have nothing to give to the world.
Today I am practising money is a means rather than a happiness. Money is an acceptable social addiction and because it was so acceptable I didn’t realise how big a problem I had with it, I was a mechanical money-making machine that lived a very tick-tock meaningless life. Money was just as big an addiction to me as was drugs and alcohol it was killing me inside.
I have transformed this addiction and see money as a symbol and energy that is meaningless. Today I live a very simplistic, adventurous, free life. Happy no money thoughts day!!
